The North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain

Photos and Article By: Linda Dello Stritto | Gallivantress

There is so much more to Louisiana than New Orleans. Mandeville, a town on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain is an excellent example of the splendors of this area. We found a beautiful house right in Bayou Castine where you can immerse yourself in the unique ecosystem of the swamp. There are birds and tiny rainforest frogs all around the property.

You can paddle a small boat through a beautiful cypress swamp or just sit on one of the outdoor decks or dock. A kayak and two bikes are provided to explore the bayou. Paths for walking and jogging are right outside the back door. Twenty seven miles of paved walking paths which stretch from Old Mandeville through Abita Springs to downtown Covington. This unique freshly constructed home exploits the views from each of its many windows and glass doors.

It is a two bedroom 2 ½ bathroom house with luxurious living spaces with contemporary furnishings and art. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything needed for a formal meal and the hosts graciously left a bottle of wine. There is an elevator and a spacious outdoor living area overlooking the bayou. The hosts were particularly helpful. Dave even came over and went over the highlights in the area and beyond. The New Orleans Garden District or French Quarter, via the causeway across the lake, they are just 38 miles away.
